Learning to Sew Curves

Our first-ever Quilt Along with Lo & Behold Stitchery started with a little excitement… and a LOT of “Are we really supposed to sew this curve?!”

We were learning something completely new—curves. And if there’s one thing quilting has taught us, it’s that new doesn’t have to mean perfect.

There were stitches that weren’t quite right. Curves that needed a little unpicking. Moments of wondering if we had gotten in way over our heads. But we kept going.

Because sometimes the best thing you can do in quilting is not be afraid to try—and not be afraid to fail.

That first QAL became more than just a quilt. It became a reminder that growth usually happens somewhere between “I have no idea what I’m doing” and “Wait… I think I’ve got this!”

And eventually, we had a quilt.

A cozy, imperfect, completely ours quilt.

So we packed it up and took it to the mountains for a weekend of slowing down, breathing deep, and recharging. A little time away to reflect on how far we’d come - and how much there still was to learn.

Because that’s what we love about quilting.

You start with a stack of fabric and an idea. You try something new. You make mistakes. You learn. You grow. And somewhere along the way, you end up with something beautiful that tells a little story of where you’ve been.

That first QAL taught us to trust the process, embrace the wonky bits, and keep stitching.

And honestly?

We’re still learning. Still trying. Still occasionally ripping out stitches. 😉

But we’re definitely not afraid to try anymore.

Here’s to the quilts that challenge us, the lessons hiding in every seam, and the adventures we take along the way.
